“I was beyond thrilled when I learned I was rostered for the U18 WNT event in Belfast, Northern Ireland,” Dawson said. “I have had the opportunity to meet and get to know a majority of the girls on this roster. Having played and experienced their talents firsthand, I feel we will compete strongly at the International Cup. I am so very thankful for my club and my coaches for preparing me to succeed both on and off the field. Go USA!”
The U19 competition features mostly players born in 1998 and 1999. The USA opened the tournament against England on Tuesday, October 18, with a 2-2 draw at the Ballymena Showgrounds in Ballymena.
“We are extremely happy for Sydney on her selection to U18 WNT roster for the Women’s International Cup in Northern Ireland,” Internationals SC Director of Coaching Keri Sarver commented.
Sarver is with Sydney in Northern Ireland and said, “She’s started and played a full 90 in both games so far and is doing very well!”
“Dawson’s performance at the U18 National Camp in September earned her a spot for this international trip and the experience she will gain playing against international opponents such as England, France, and Northern Ireland will tremendously aid her development,” said Sarver.
“She has been training and playing with the club this fall and has been setting the bar high for all of her teammates. We are all cheering for Syd and for the USA as they compete in Northern Ireland!”
U.S. Soccer Women’s Technical Director April Heinrichs has named 20 players to the roster for the tournament, eight born in 1999 with the remainder born in 1998. Dawson is the only player from Ohio on the roster.
