Cal South Looks to Repeat 2104’s Record-Setting Sweep Performance at 2015 US Youth Soccer Region IV ODP Championships
As reported on www.calsouth.com: Cal South Pro+ has announced the rosters for its ten Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams which are traveling to the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona to take part in this weekend’s US Youth Soccer Region IV ODP Championships from January 8-11, 2015. Cal South will play in five age groups for boys and girls, comprising 180 players from all over Southern California who will compete with the other 13 western states that make up US Youth Soccer’s Region IV.
Cal South’s teams will try to repeat 2014’s record-setting performance, when they swept all 10 championship titles at the same location. Cal South Pro+/ODP teams have won an astounding 63 of a possible 76 regional championships (82%) for which it has competed in the last eight years, and 28 out of 30 in the past three years, including 9 out of 10 titles in both 2012 and 2013.
“I put the success of our Pro+ teams at these events 100% on the fantastic clubs and coaches throughout Cal South who train these players day to day,” said Steve Hoffman, Cal South’s Director of Coaching Education, Pro+ and Player Development. “It is because of their remarkable efforts in guiding and developing these players that Cal South Pro+ gets an opportunity to show the rest of the country, on both a regional and national level, how rich Southern California is in soccer talent.
“I feel that every club that has a player, not just traveling to Phoenix this week, but in our overall player pools throughout the year is what makes Cal South Pro+ the national success it is. All of our clubs, coaches and parents should be proud of the job they are doing with player development.”
Teams in the 1998 and 1999 age groups are playing for a chance to move on to the 2015 US Youth Soccer ODP Championships from February 27 through March 1, also at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix. At the 2014 ODP Championships last March, for the second year in a row, Cal South swept all four titles at the event, the only state association to ever do so.
“I tell our players the same thing every year: performance equals success,” Hoffman continued. “If you consistently play well and at the top of your game, the results will be there.”
Cal South will broadcast scores and photos on its social media platforms throughout the event. Daily scores and photos will be posted on Twitter and Instagram, while recaps of each day’s action and top photos will be posted at Facebook.
Cal South wishes to congratulate all of its talented ODP players that have made the rosters for this weekend’s competition, and also wishes them luck in their efforts in Phoenix!
