The Courage Becomes Only the Second Team to Win Back-to-Back Championships
The North Carolina Courage wins second straight NWSL Champion with a 4-0 win over the Chicago Red Stars.
The Courage became the first time to win an NWSL Championship game at home, extending their unbeaten streak at home to 14 games. With goals from Debinha, Jessica McDonald, Crystal Dunn and Samantha Mewis, North Carolina won their second straight NWSL title.
MVP, Debinha, opened by the scoring in the 4th minute, with a rebound shot that got past Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. Her goal is the fastest goal in NWSL Championship history. The Courage continued to pressure the Red Stars with McDonald scoring in the 26’ minute and Dunn scoring in the right before the half ended.
With three goals in the first half, the Courage entered the record books again as they became the first team to score three times in one half in a championship match

The final Courage goal came in the 61st minute. Mewis headed in the ball off a long ball from Abby Dahlkemper. It was Dahlkemper’s first assist of the year.
The game was played in front of a record-setting crowd of 10,227 at WakeMed Soccer Park.
