U-16 BNT TAKES THIRD PLACE IN VAL-DE-MARNE TOURNAMENT
The U.S. U16 BNT return home from the Val-de-Marne Tournament held in France after a strong France and Russia side edged out the young Americans. The U.S. squad now gears up for the the IMG Cup set to take place in Florida next month.
Youth Soccer News: The U.S. U16 Boys’ National Team concluded the Val-de-Marne Tournament in France with a win and two losses to finish third out of four teams.
The squad of talented young boys started off strong in the French youth soccer tournament. U.S. Soccer’s Shaun Tsakiris is the head coach of the U-16 Boys’ National Team and he had worked as often as possible with the boys.
The U-16 Boys’ National Team edged England 2-1 in their opening match of the tournament – fighting their way to a 2-1 comeback victory at the Val-de-Marne Tournament. The games were played with two 40 minute halves.
After coming off a win over England in their first game, Russia proved to be a test-worthy opponent in the U16 BNT’s second match. The U.S. U16s fell 3-0 to Russia and 2-0 to France.
Russia found the back of the net early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute of the match. Maksim Kutovoi’s second half brace in the 57th and 68th minutes sealed a 3-0 victory with the United States unable to finish their opportunities.
The U.S. then faced off against France in their third and final game. Les Bleus opened up the scoring in the 34th minute and added another in the 58th as the young Americans finished the tournament with a 1-2-0 overall record.
The 20-player U.S. roster consisted of 17 individuals who currently play in with U.S. Soccer Development Academy, two play abroad and only one remains unattached.
