Janae Gonzalez Goes Pro with Club América Femenil
It is always a time to celebrate when a player signs their first professional soccer contract. Congratulations to former collegiate player Janae Gonzalez and good luck competing in Liga BBVA MX Femenil.
UC Davis women’s soccer alumna Janae Gonzalez is now a full-time professional competing in Liga BBVA MX Femenil, the highest division of women’s soccer in Mexico, after signing a contract with Club América Femenil.
With the 2020 season now one week old, the Folsom, California, native is expected to make her debut once the transaction is cleared by the Mexican Football Federation.
Gonzalez’ return to Mexico takes place after her successful two-year career at UC Davis, which ended with All-Big West First Team honors.
Led by her team-high six goals, the fifth-highest total in the conference, Gonzalez ended her final season at UC Davis with six top-10 individual rankings. The Big West All-Academic Team selection’s 0.33 goals per game average ranked her No. 6; she also ranked No. 7 with 13 points, 0.72 points per game, and No. 9 with 34 shots and 1.89 shots per game.
Responsible for the game-winning goal at Nevada, she recorded her first brace when UC Davis hosted Hawai’i in the team’s 2019 season finale. Throughout her two-year career as an Aggie, she started all 28 games played, finished with 18 points, earned two assists and scored on eight of her 24 shots on goal.
Gonzalez, who possesses dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico, previously competed for the U-17 Mexican Women’s National Team and helped the squad win its inaugural CONCACAF championship in 2013.
That year, she led the team in goals (three) and assists (four) while attending Vista Del Lago High School as a junior.
Mexico defeated the United States and Canada, on penalty kicks in the semifinals and finals, to win the 2013 title. The following year saw Gonzalez travel to Costa Rica for the U-17 Women’s World Cup; she also finished that tournament as the team’s leading scorer.
Her goal against Columbia was selected best goal of the U-17 Women’s World Cup by a public vote on FIFA.com.
Prior to joining to Aggies, she spent her freshman and sophomore years at Santa Clara. Selected to the West Coast Conference’s All-Freshman Team and All-Academic team in 2015 and ’16 respectively, Gonzalez scored four goals, assisted on another and helped the Broncos earn a berth in the 2016 NCAA Tournament before transferring to UC Davis.
