Big win for the red, white and blue!
Needless to say, the Denmark game earlier in the day was a huge disappointment but the evening game in the Arena World Cup more than made up for it. Team USA beat a resilient Czech team 5-4 on a power play goal to advance to the quarterfinals. The team plays Germany in Oklahoma Friday night.
According to Tom Nickel from the American Outlaws San Diego Chapter, “After the disappointment of the Denmark game during the day, the excitement of the 5-4 comeback win against the Czechs in the Indoor World Cup match was just what we needed. The second half was constantly on a knife’s edge back and forth. When the final whistle blew and the USA had won the celebrations between the fans and the players were perfectly spontaneous. For players not used to the fervent support that the San Diego American Outlaws showed throughout the match, you could see how much it meant to them. To join the fans in the stands to chant and then to usher the fans down to the field for photos and high fives was an unbelievable experience that none of us who were there will ever forget. It was one of the purest soccer match celebrations I have ever been a part of. I hope all US soccer fans embrace our Arena World Cup team and get behind them.”
The San Diego Sockers are looking to build a supporters section and they are willing to offer free tickets for folks who will lead cheers, make noise and create an Outlaws-esque atmosphere.
We will be having a viewing party at 9 am on Tuesday, March 31st for the USA v. Switzerland. The pub will have a limited food menu along with coffee, OJ and mimosas (in addition to beer). We’ll have the game and sound on the big screen on the patio.
