San Jose State Men’s Lost in a Close Match to the University of San Diego, 1-0
Aidan Marmion scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the third minute to help lead University of San Diego to a 1-0 victory at San Jose State on Sunday afternoon.
Marmion scored on the first shot of the game. He received a pass from Miguel Berry and buried his shot to put the Toreros (5-3-1) up early.
That would be all USD needed as it kept the Spartans (2-6) off the board to earn its second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season.
Goalkeeper Thomas Olsen made three saves to preserve the 1-0 victory. His defense played well in front of him, limiting the amount of opportunities San Jose State had in the middle of the field.
Neither team generated an abundance of chances with a majority of play taking place in the midfield. Both sides could get to the edge of the final third but had trouble penetrating the backline.
Despite the limited amount of opportunities, USD made theirs count with three of their four shots being on goal.
The Toreros will have next weekend off before WCC play begins Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. (PT) against LMU at Torero Stadium.
