USD Toreros Men’s & Women’s Soccer Prepare for Conference Play
USD men’s and women’s soccer are gearing up for conference play with matches scheduled this week for the Toreros. The men’s side will travel to take on CSUN during their six-game road trip, while the women’s program hosts three matches at Torero Stadium in the next two weeks.

USD men’s soccer (3-2-2) are coming off a 4-3 road win versus UNLV on Tuesday night as the Toreros gear up for a matchup with Cal State University, Northridge at Peter F. Johann Memorial Soccer Field on Thursday.
The Toreros held off a streaking Rebels led by three individual goal scorers, as Michael Turner tallied a brace on the night to snag a road win for USD.
Midfielder Merlin Baus, a transfer from Virginia Tech, missed Tuesday’s match after receiving a red card late in the UC Riverside matchup last week. Goalkeeper Thomas Olsen, who missed USD’s last match after being issued a red card, returned to the lineup versus the Rebels.
Junior Patrick McGrath gave USD the quick 1-0 lead after collecting his own rebound from six yards out and putting the ball past UNLV goalkeeper Nathan Bohn.
The Toreros struck again just four minutes later when Turner scored off a Gustav Brandt corner kick. Marquis Pitt scored the Rebels’ first goal of the night in the 16th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Freshman Miguel Berry extended USD’s lead in the 51st minute to give the Toreros a 3-1 advantage. Berry and Turner are currently tied with four goals on the season.
The Rebels quickly got one back less than a minute later when Memo Diaz finished a ball from Danny Musovski to bring the scoreline to 3-2. In the 57th minute, Musovski scored from eight yards out to bring the score level. Turner converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute to give the Toreros a hard fought 4-3 victory.
USD women’s soccer (4-4-1) prepare to host Cal State Fullerton on Friday in their final non-conference match of the preseason. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT.
The Titans travel to San Diego with a season record of 3-6-0, having yet to win a match on the road this campaign. Junior Tala Haddad leads Fullerton with two goals on the season.
The Toreros’ record versus the Titans is 10-6-0, with six of those wins coming at home. San Diego has outscored Fullerton 41-24 in the series.
Senior midfielder Jacqueline Altschuld leads USD with three goals and three assists on the season, while Summer Mason follows with two goals and one assist this campaign.
The women’s side will then follow up with another home match versus the University of San Francisco on September 29th at 7:00 p.m. PT.
