Toreros’ 2015 Schedule Includes 20 Matches
With the end of the summer comes the start of fall season for student athletes. The women’s soccer team at the University of San Diego are gearing up for the start of fall season, as they release their 2015 schedule. Find out when and where you can go to support the Toreros!
Soccer News: The University of San Diego women’s soccer team has announced their 2015 schedule. The Toreros will play 20 matches and will face seven 2014 NCAA Tournament participants; Georgetown, UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, BYU, San Diego State, USC and Pepperdine.
“We will be playing another competitive schedule to give us the best opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Tournament,” stated head coach Ada Greenwood. “This non-conference schedule will also give us our best opportunity to compete for another WCC title.”
The Toreros will kick off their 2015 season with home matches against NC State (Aug. 21), and UCLA on August 23 @ 5:00 p.m. UCLA had a record of 19-0-2 earning them the first seed in the NCAA tournament in 2014. These matches will be part of the Torero Classic opening weekend tournament.
USD hits the road the following weekend to Ann Arbor and Washington D.C. to face Michigan (Aug 27) and Georgetown (Aug 30).
During the next month the Toreros will be back and forth as they play at home against Long Beach State (Sep. 4) followed by Utah (Sep. 6). USD then travels north to play NCAA Tournament participant USC (Sep 11) and cross-town rival SDSU at their place (Sep. 17).
The Toreros will return home to play Oregon State on September 20, and Cal State Northridge on September 25. Before starting conference play, USD travels to CSU Fullerton on September 27. Fullerton had a 10-7-4 record last season and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Toreros will kick off WCC play October 1 when they travel to Portland, followed by a match at Gonzaga (Oct. 3), and on October 9 they play the 2014 WCC champions BYU Cougars in Provo, Utah.
The following weekend USD returns home for a single match against St. Mary’s (Oct 16), before going on their last road trip were they face off against Santa Clara (Oct. 22) and San Francisco (Oct. 24).
The Toreros will close out the regular season with three home matches – Loyola Marymount (Oct. 29), Pepperdine (Oct. 31) and Pacific (Nov. 6). Pepperdine went 15-2-3 last season, and was knocked out in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Their final match of the regular season will be played at 7:30 p.m. against the Pacific Tigers inside the friendly confines of Torero Stadium.
