UWS Team of the Week
The Week 8 Team of the Week has been announced by United Women’s Soccer (UWS) as clubs across the United States prepare to take the field for the final weekend of the regular season. Santa Clarita Heat were crowned winners of the West, while Grand Rapids FC (Midwest) and New Jersey Copa FC (East) led their conferences.
UWS Soccer News: United Women’s Soccer (UWS) has announced the Team of the Week ahead of the final fixture of regular season matches during the 2017 campaign.
With the postseason approaching, teams from coast to coast showcased their best performances with numerous individuals to choose from in Week VIII. With two impressive wins at home, Grand Rapids FC won the regular season title and will host the Midwest playoffs (July 15-16). Detroit will join them after their dominating victory over Fort Wayne. New Jersey booked their spot in the two-team East Final (July 18) following a win over New England. Santa Clarita captured their second consecutive West crown and now head to the 2017 UWS National Championship (July 21-22) in Grandville, MI.
UWS TEAM OF THE WEEK (WEEK VIII)
F–Bethany Balcer* (GRFC Women): Balcer recorded seven goals and two assists in two wins for Grand Rapids.
F–Tatiana Ariza* (Houston Aces): Ariza scored two goals including the game-winning goal versus RSL Women.
F–Kate Howarth* (New England Mutiny): Howarth broke the team’s all-time scoring mark.
MF–Jackie Bruno* (New Jersey Copa FC): Bruno controlled the midfield in a win over New England.
MF–Corinna Ferrante (New York Surf): Ferrante scored two goals in a win over NY Magic.
MF–Alyssa Burke (Detroit Sun FC): Burke scored two goals in a win over Fort Wayne.
MF–Amanda Pak (Calgary Foothills Women’s FC): Pak was a top three selection for Calgary in both games.
D–Clare Carlson (GRFC Women): Carlson scored a goal and led the defense in two shutout wins.
D–Brittany Champagne (New England Mutiny): Champagne scored a goal in a win over NY Magic.
D–Kimberly Marra* (Long Island Rough Riders): Marra led the defense in a win over Rochester.
GK–Reilley Ott (GRFC Women): Ott recorded six saves in two shutout wins.
