UWS Team of the Week
The Week 6 Team of the Week has been announced by United Women’s Soccer (UWS) as the final four teams prepare for championship weekend. The UWS is a second tier women’s league in the United States that will conclude its second campaign in Michigan on Saturday.
UWS Soccer News: United Women’s Soccer (UWS) has announced the Team of the Week ahead of the United Women’s Soccer (UWS) Championships held this weekend in Grandville, MI.
West champion Santa Clarita Blue Heat (8-0 West) were first to automatically qualify, while Grand Rapids FC Women (10-1-1) won the Midwest playoff for the second berth. Midwest Conference runner-up Detroit Sun FC (7-2-3) claimed the third spot, setting up a midweek showdown for the final berth.
Long Island Rough Riders upset top-seeded and defending UWS East Conference champion New Jersey Copa FC, 5-1, on Tuesday night to earn the final berth as the East seed.
The first semifinal match will kick off on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET while the second contest will commence at 7:30 p.m. ET. The semifinal winners will take the pitch on Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. ET for the 2017 UWS title.
UWS Team of the Week (Week X)
F–Stephanie Garcia (Houston Aces): Garcia scored a hat-trick in an 18-minute span in a win over So Cal Crush FC.
F–Devyn Brough (Detroit Sun FC): Brough recorded the game-winner versus Michigan in the Midwest Semifinal.
F–Kayla Saager (Long Island Rough Riders): Saager tallied a hat-trick in Friday’s win over the New York Magic.
MF–Tatiana Ariza (Houston Aces): Ariza recorded two goals and an assist in two games over the weekend.
MF–Morgan Santoro (Long Island Rough Riders): Santoro scored two goals in two games, including the game-winning goal versus Lancaster as a second half sub.
MF–Chloe Castaneda (Santa Clarita Blue Heat): Castaneda scored two goals in a 4-3 win at Houston.
MF–Megan McCashland (Houston Aces): McCashland scored two goals in the club’s regular season finale victory.
D–Michaela Kovacs (GRFC Women): Kovacs scored the game-winning header in the 22nd minute of the Midwest Final.
D–Kimberly Marra (Long Island Rough Riders): Marra scored three goals in two games. D–Natalie Kuikka (Santa Clarita Blue Heat): Kuikka scored the game-winning goal versus Houston in the 77th minute.
GK–Reilley Ott (GRFC Women): Ott recorded eight saves and a shutout in the Midwest Final win over Detroit.
