UWS Team of the Week
The Week 6 Team of the Week has been announced by United Women’s Soccer (UWS) as clubs across the United States prepare for another weekend of action. 2016 UWS Champion Santa Clarita Blue Heat remains undefeated on the year, while Grand Rapids FC recorded a pair of wins.
UWS Soccer News: United Women’s Soccer (UWS) has announced the Team of the Week ahead of the seventh weekend of matches during the 2017 season.
The midway point of the 2017 campaign has passed as the separation between the clubs looking to capture the league championship and those falling behind is beginning to grow even larger. In the West, defending UWS champion Santa Clarita continued their undefeated run to start the season.
In the Midwest, Grand Rapids notched two victories over conference contenders during the weekend. In the East, two heavyweights faced off to a 1-1 draw. Performances from those teams highlight the Week VI edition of the UWS Team of the Week.
UWS TEAM OF THE WEEK (WEEK VI)
F–Marti Corby (GRFC Women): Corby recorded a goal and assist in a 2-1 win over FC Indiana.
F–Madisyn Pezzino (WNY Flash): Pezzino recorded two goals and two assists in a 4-1 win over Rochester.
F–Carissima Cutrona (WNY Flash): Cutrona tallied two goals and two assists in a 4-1 win over Rochester.
MF–Deyna Castellanos (Santa Clarita Blue Heat): Castellanos notched the game-winning goal from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory over Houston.
MF–Maddie Schwartz (Lancaster Inferno): Schwartz controlled the midfield in a 3-1 victory over the NY Magic.
MF–Flo Gamby (New York Surf): Gamby tallied the game-tying goal in 1-1 draw versus NJCFC.
MF–Bethany Balcer (GRFC Women): Balcer recorded a hat-trick as a second half substitute in a 3-0 win over Detroit.
D/MF–Natalia Ariza (Houston Aces): Ariza controlled the flow of play in a 4-0 win over So Cal.
D–Michaela Kovacs (GRFC Women): Kovacs led the defense in two wins over FC Indiana and Detroit.
D–Alana O’Neill (New Jersey Copa FC): O’Neill led the defense in 1-1 draw versus NY Surf.
GK–Rebecca Ritchie (Real Salt Lake Women): Ritchie made nine saves in a scoreless draw versus Calgary.
