Soccer News: UPSL Match Recap
Two goals from Valley United Soccer Club’s Carlos Contreras ensured no let up by the side after losing their star striker in their third straight win after a 2-0 victory over So Cal Real Saturday at Heritage Christian High School.
Casey Phillips United goalkeeper had his third clean sheet of the early (3-0-1; 7 points) United Premier Soccer League regular season after being tested five minutes into the match after a defensive break down left him vulnerable.
This win leaves United atop the Northwest conference alone in first place, incredible progress after Coach Laura Garcia had to reshuffle her line-up after Tristan Korras left the side for other opportunities. Garcia looking for talent in her Youth programs found it after Contreras lashed a skimmer in the 62nd minute after receiving a thru ball from Kamyar Emami giving the home side the lead 1-0.
Ten minutes later Contreras was back at it after gathering a cross from Tyler Horcher that he was able to ram it in the net past the tangle of the So Cal Real (0-1-0; 0) points) goalkeeper. With the lead and temperatures on the pitch reaching 98 degrees Coach Garcia was content with saving her players legs and taking a defensive tactic to preserve the win.
With it getting so hot, we mostly played defense the last 15 minutes of the game,” said Garcia. “Both teams played extremely well and had chances, we just happened to be the ones to put it away this time.”
Both sides will return to action next weekend, United hosting Banning USA (0-1-0; 0 points) on Saturday, June 6 kicking off at 5:00 p.m. PST at Heritage Christian High School – South Campus while Real So Cal will stay on the road to face Las Vegas High Rollers (1-2-0; 3 points).
