52-Game Schedule Opens May 21
As the premier under-20 women’s league in North America, W-20 provides the necessary platform for top 17- to 20-year-olds to compete at an elite level while also serving as a reserve system for professional and senior adult-amateur women’s teams.
W-20, released its divisional alignment and schedule for 2015, with the action slated to kick off for the 52-game regular season on Thursday, May 21. The 2015 W-20 season features 13 teams aligned in three regional divisions – North Atlantic, South Atlantic and Southeast – playing eight regular season matches from May through July, with a national championship set for late July at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
W-20 currently features three teams that serve as reserve teams for W-League clubs, including the Braddock Road Stars Elite, the Carolina Elite Cobras and the Washington Spirit Academy (Washington Spirit Reserves). The Washington Spirit Reserves of the W-League serve in the same capacity for the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
North Atlantic Division
Braddock Road Stars Elite, ETA United, Northern Virginia Majestics, Washington Spirit Academy
South Atlantic Division
Carolina Elite Cobras, Excel Ladies, Lake Norman SC, Triangle FC Alliance
Southeast Division
Atlanta Metros FC, Georgia Revolution, Gulf Coast Texans, Knoxville Soccer Academy, Tennessee SC
W-20 is the result of rebranding the premier North American under-20 women’s league, previously known as the Super-20 Women. W-20 aligns operationally with the W-League to benefit from the established infrastructure of the first and longest standing women’s league in North America, which emphasizes quality ownership, league standards and player development.
The 2015 season opener sees the Northern Virginia Majestics travel to face Braddock Road on May 21, while the Washington Spirit Academy – a W-20 Championship qualifier in 2014 – kicks off its season on Thursday, May 28 when it also welcomes Braddock Road.
The regular season closes on Tuesday, July 7 when the Carolina Elite Cobras travel to face 2014 championship qualifier Triangle FC Alliance. Four teams (three division champions and one wild card) will advance to the 2015 W-20 Championship presented by Nike, set for July 16-19 at IMG Academy.
