San Diego Surf Hosts PSPL Surf
Soccer News: PSPL Surf Academy and Surf Soccer Club recently hosted a summer training camp for Surf ’01 and ’02 boys and girls at the San Diego Polo Fields, in Del Mar, California that showcased some of the best talent in Washington state as well as in San Diego.
The San Diego camp is the first of its kind between San Diego Surf and one of its affiliate clubs — PSPL Surf Academy in Washington state. The camp consisted of San Diego Surf and PSPL Surf Academy players training together under the guidance of San Diego Surf Coaching Director Colin Chesters, Assistant Director Paul Dolinsky and PSPL Surf Academy Director Eddie Henderson.
The PSPL Surf Academy teams also played several competitive scrimmages against San Diego Surf Club teams in the afternoon after morning training. Both groups mixed together to play outdoor futsal in the evenings, among other events over the course of their trip.
PSPL Surf Academy’s Henderson said putting together such a camp with Surf’s top teams was a good test and a good learning experience for the young academy players.
“This was a tremendous opportunity for our kids to interact with the San Diego Surf Soccer Club players and coaches,” Henderson said. ” We are hoping that this interaction will expose them to another level of the game and the expectations of playing at that level.”
Chesters sees value in these kind of player training camps, as well. “Training with a high level veteran coach like Eddie brings a refreshing perspective to our players along with an additional opportunity to learn and grow in the sport,” said Chesters. “We hope to continue to expand and grow coaching exchange programs such as these with our affiliates, both clubs definitely benefited from this camp.”
