Three WNY Flash Stars Prepare for U.S. International Friendlies
WNY Flash stars Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams are prepping for a pair of U.S. international friendlies versus Switzerland this week to conclude the current U.S. Women’s National Team camp. All three players hit strides during the 2016 NWSL campaign that earned them spots on a youthful USWNT.
Soccer News: Abby Dahlkemper, Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams are representing the Western New York Flash in Sandy, Utah this week for the October U.S. Women’s National Team camp. The trio is part of the 24-player roster for two international friendly matches against Switzerland on October 19th at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah and October 23rd at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dahlkemper, 23, earned her first call up to the National Team after logging a remarkable 2,040 minutes – every minute in the 2016 campaign. The defender was a key part of the Flash’s back line in all 22 matches and was voted the 2016 WNY Flash Defender of the Year.
Mewis, 24, will be returning to the U.S. National Team after traveling as an alternate with the team to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Mewis logged 16 matches for the Flash, recording 7 goals and 3 assists – including the first tally in the Flash’s 3-2 (ET) win against the Washington Spirit in the NWSL Championship.
Williams, 23, also earned her first call up to the USWNT after a remarkable season that saw the forward earn the NWSL MVP and Golden Boot awards. Williams topped the league with 11 goals in the regular season, and notched 3 in the playoffs – all three coming in extra time. She scored the equalizer in the 124’ of the Flash’s NWSL Championship win, and then went on to convert her penalty kick.
