2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Countdown
Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Abby Wambach, Kelley O’Hara, Sydney Leroux, Carli Lloyd, Amy Rodriguez, Shannon Boxx, Morgan Brian, Lori Chalupny, Whitney Engen, Ashlyn Harris, Tobin Heath, Lauren Holiday, Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg, Ali Krieger, Alyssa Naeher, Heather O’Reilly, Christen Press, Christie Rampone, Megan Rapinoe and Becky Sauerbrunn are ready to bring home the FIFA GOLD as the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off in days.
Just days till kick off of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada and our women are ready. The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off this Saturday June 6 and runs through July 5. Played in six cities across Canada – this soccer tournament is the largest single sporting event for women on our planet.
The United States head coach, Jill Ellis, has done an amazing job of preparing our Women’s National squad, a team of amazing depth with highly experienced players mixed with younger players. Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan and Hope Solo, as well as the rest of Team USA, are ready to face the intense pressure as the tournament kicks off.
The build up to the games has been great. The U.S. Women’s National Team was featured on ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday and fan support can be felt all across the country as well as digitally in the cyber world.
#SHEBELIEVES is the new cry – and the call is to get on your social media and show these fabulous women you believe too. It is important to let these women — who represent the USA on the soccer battle field — that you believe in them and all you have to do is jump on your social media. Just tag #SHEBELIEVES and follow the players on this amazing journey.
Twitter just unveiled the #SheBelieves and #USA Hashflags and already created a sensation. As the U.S. Women’s National Team takes off for Canada today and begins their long awaited and very anticipated journey at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015, all of us at home can show our support of the #USWNT on Twitter with brand new soccer specific emojis.
Use #SheBelieves for a United States themed SHE flag emoji and use #USA to populate an American flag maple leaf throughout the Women’s World Cup this summer. The hashflags will only appear once your tweet is published. Alex Morgan has even been on her Facebook reaching out to fans and making new friends before leaving with the team for Canada. Morgan wants everyone to get involved and spent time in LA last month to create a special mural and kick off the Pass the Love campaign.
And we should believe – our USA women are great on the soccer field and we set the bar high. Our Stars and Stripes won the inaugural Women’s World Cup at China PR 1991. Not only have USA participated in all six previous editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, but they are also the only team to have reached the semi-finals of each tournament. Far outreaching the achievements of their male counterparts, the US Women’s National Team players have consistently made their mark in world-class soccer.
Cool Trivia from FIFA – Did you know that four goals were scored in the Final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011™, the most in a final match at the global showpiece? Or with her 5 goals in the game between USA and Chinese Taipei at the FIFA Women’s World Cup China PR 1991™, Michelle Akers is still the highest goalscorer in a single match? Akers was named FIFA Player of the Century in 2000, and with two Women’s World Cup gold medals, Akers was capped 153 times and scored 105 goals for her country.
When asked how she prepares mentally, Kelley O’Hara who has already won a gold medial, said, “I remember I made it here for a reason and that I have done it before. I have everything it takes to perform and get the job done on the field.” O’Hara believes that Sweden will be the hardest game of the group but also thinks Australia and Nigeria will be tough as well.
Who will leave her mark on these games? Legendary Mia Hamm is perhaps the best-known player from past World Cup games — over her seventeen year pro soccer career, she helped take the women’s game to new heights. Abby Wambach is playing in her 4th World Cup — will she score first or will it be Alex Morgan? The action is just days away.
Even to compete is a big deal – Only seven teams have participated in all six previous FIFA Women’s World Cup™ competitions: The Stars and Stripes plus Brazil, Germany, Japan, Nigeria, Norway, and Sweden.
So grab your cell phones and start showing you believe like #SHEBELIEVES! The team has worked so hard — training for so many hours, days and months – this is their moment.
