2017 WPSL Championship Update
Another year of Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) has concluded with thousands of players taking to the field and sharing their passion for the beautiful game. This year, Fire & Ice SC were crowned WPSL Champions after edging Gulf Coast Texans.
WPSL Soccer News: The 2017 Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) is the largest women’s soccer league in the world. The passionate living legacy Commissioner Jerry Zanelli, the WPSL exists to help continue to grow the women’s game. 
The 2017 WPSL Championship reflects the diverse and highly competitive aspects of soccer. This year’s champions are the proud Fire & Ice Soccer Club (FISC) who also won the Central Division Championship for the second time in franchise history.
FISC defeated the Gulf Coast Texans in the WPSL Final at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in the Inland Empire to claim the title of champions.
Fire & Ice owner and head coach Lindsay Eversmeyer said, “I am extremely proud of what this group of ladies accomplished this year. They worked hard from the moment we began training in May, played every game with a lot of heart and fight for one another, and did whatever it took to be successful.”

The Impact of the Win
“Every year we seem to have a new champion from all over the United States,” said WPSL Commissioner Jerry Zanelli.
This simple fact that there is not a clear, dominating team in the largest women’s soccer league in the world reinforces the dynamic growth of the WPSL.
The league fills a critical role in the landscape of women’s soccer in the USA.
The WPSL is a constant champion for the role of women in the world of soccer.
“Congratulations to Fire & Ice SC! Lindsay Eversmeyer’s long time involvement in the WPSL shows what a woman-owned and coached team can accomplish,” said Zanelli.
FISC advanced to the finals after defeating San Diego SeaLions, 2-1, while Gulf Coast defeated the Boston Breakers Reserves, 1-0.

“Overall it was a good season, of course not how we wanted to finish,” said Lu Snyder, San Diego SeaLions president and assistant coach. “I think coming off the emotional high of beat Beach FC in the WPSL Western Regional Finals 6-0, kind of gave us a little false sense of security.”
“Fire and Ice Soccer club is a good team,” said Snyder who is the former goalkeeper for the SeaLions. “They capitalize on their opportunities and did want they needed to keep us from capitalizing on ours.”
Snyder is excited about the growing level of play in the WPSL as her team prepares for next season.
“With LA Galaxy San Diego coming into the league this season, it added some new excitement to women’s soccer here in San Diego,” said Snyder. “I see these games being the most fun in the near future.”
