WPSL Spotlight on Sacramento’s California Storm
California Storm of the Women’s Premier Soccer League will kick off the 2016 season playing in the league’s Nor Cal division. With Jerry Zanelli as the fearless Commissioner who is devoted to the women’s soccer game, the WPSL has grown into the largest women’s soccer league in the world. USA World Cup winners Brandi Chastain and Alex Morgan both come through the ranks of the California Storm and the WPSL.
Soccer News: Led by Head Coach and team owner, Jerry Zanelli, the California Storm of Sacramento plays soccer at the highest amateur level in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. As part of the league’s Nor Cal division, the California Storm team will compete against seven other women’s soccer teams in 2016 – the goal is to win the Regional Championship.
WPSL Headquarters is in Sacramento, California and — at just over 100 teams — the league proudly holds the title of the world’s largest women’s league.
California Storm players come from many different backgrounds: from current college standouts and college soccer team coaches to former National, distinguished, and world-wide recognized professional players. From Ghana to Greece, international players from around the world seek a position with the California Storm.
Outstanding college and post-collegiate athletes continue to choose the California Storm, year after year, to stay in shape and to build on their current soccer skills. Whether they are planning on returning to their regular college season, or are pursuing or finishing a professional soccer career, playing with the Storm at such a high level will gives these players the competitive edge that they deserve.
The Storm also has very experienced players and has been fortunate enough to have forty-eight-year-old, Brazilian star, Sissi on the roster for the last ten years. Sissi was named the 3rd best women’s soccer player to ever play the game by FIFA. A total professional, Sissi’s relentless leadership and dedication has been an incredible asset to the WPSL and her team.
It’s no wonder the Storm team has helped to produce phenomenal career soccer players such as USA World Cup Winner Brandi Chastain and USWNT standout Alex Morgan.
