The Xolos’ strategy for the 2016 campaign has helped Tijuana reach first place in the standings. Club Tijuana now hopes to remain there after playing host to Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz on November 18th.
Goalkeeper Federico Vilar spoke about how important it is for his side to finish atop the table. Club Tijuana has 33 points heading into its Week 17 matchup next week.
“It is an important goal for us to be the regular season leader,” Vilar said during a news conference prior to practice Friday morning. “It’s important when thinking about what’s in the future. It’s part of the final part of the season. You begin to look at stats but we take things as they are. You always have to get the best you can in soccer and we are going to try and get the best result in the next game.”
The Xolos will continue to work towards that goal and keep preparing with an intersquad match scheduled for Saturday at Estadio Caliente.
