Tijuana Xolos U17 Side Clinches Playoff Berth
Tijuana Xolos U17 side clinched a playoff berth following a convincing victory over Chiapas on Friday night. The Xolos will head on the road to take on Toluca FC in Week 15 as they look to continue their strong form.
Soccer News: Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles U17 squad clinched a postseason spot with a 5-0 win against visiting Chiapas Friday at Estadio Caliente.
The Xoloitzcuintles youth team also earned an extra point by winning the penalty shootout in the LIGA MX 2016 Apertura Week 14 match.
Antonio Nava (15th minute), Edgar Lopez (20th), Brian Perez (22nd), Carlos Vargas (83rd) and Ivan Martinez (89th) scored for coach Gilberto Mora’s team.
Nava opened up the scoring for Club Tijuana as he records his 10th in the tournament. The Xolos kept pressuring Chiapas and got a second tally five minutes later when Lopez sent one into the back of the net. The goal marked his eighth of the season.
A few moments later Club Tijuana scored again. Mora’s team used a collection of passes to give the Xolos a 3-0 lead with Perez on the closing end.
Mora added two more goals to the tally, while Vargas scored on a cross from the left side. Martinez buried a free kick into the lower right corner of Adrian Salcedo’s net.
Club Tijuana’s U17 team will face Toluca FC in a Week 15 road match on October 30th (7 a.m. Pacific).
