Tijuana Xolos Visit Club America this Weekend – Here’s a Look at Their Recent Matchups
The Tijuana Xolos prepare for an exciting visit to Azteca Stadium as they face off against Club America on Saturday. The clubs have traded wins since the Xolos’ debut in LIGA MX as they take the pitch for the first time against America with Miguel Herrera in charge following his announcement of manager in November.
Soccer News: Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles has had some memorable matches since joining the Mexican First Division in 2011. Some of those were against Mexico City side Club America.

2011 APERTURA
Club America 1-1 Club Tijuana
Club Tijuana, still in its debut season after having won promotion into LIGA MX, traveled to Mexico City to face Club America for the first time. Javier Yacuzzi gave the visiting Xoloitzcuintles a dream start to the match scoring the opening goal seconds into the game. It is the fastest goal scored in the club’s history. It gave the Xoloitzcuintles an early lead but it lasted only until late in the match. America’s Ecuadorian striker Christian Benitez found a late equalizer in the 85th minute.
2012 Clausura
Club Tijuana 1-1 Club America
Club Tijuana hosted Club America for the first time at Estadio Caliente and current Xoloitzcuintles manager Miguel Herrera stepped inside of the Caliente stadium for the first time. Raul Jimenez gave the visiting America the lead in the 62nd minute. But the Xoloitzcuintles answered with a Duvier Riascos equalizer in the 63rd minute.
2012 Apertura
Club America 0-1 Club Tijuana
A special win during a special season. Club Tijuana defeated the Mexico City side for the first time during the 2012 Apertura. It was the season that would see the Xoloitzcuintles as league champions. Central midfielder Christian Pellerano blasted a screamer into the top corner of the goal minutes before halftime to give Club Tijuana the lead and the win. America’s Christian Benitez missed a penalty kick in seven minutes into injury time at the end of the game.
2013 Clausura
Club Tijuana 1-2 Club America
Club America managed to beat the then reigning champions Club Tijuana for the first time in its fourth attempt. Osvaldo Martinez opened the scoring with an 11th minute penalty for the visiting America. The visitors were left with nine players thanks to red cards to both Rubens Sambueza and Aquivaldo Mosquera. Defender Paul Aguilar doubled the lead with a long-range shot in the 53rd minute. Pablo Cesar Aguilar got the Xoloitzcuintles on the board in the 75th minute.
2013 Apertura
Club America 2-0 Club Tijuana
Club Tijuana suffered its first loss at Estadio Azteca three years after being promoted into the First Division. Pablo Cesar Aguilar scored an own goal in the 19th minute to give America the lead and Narciso Mina doubled the lead in the 24th minute with a header.
2014 Clausura
Club Tijuana 1-0 Club America
Club Tijuana faced a former manager for the first time. Leading Club America was Argentine manager Antonio ‘Turco’ Mohamed who returned to Estadio Caliente after leading the Xoloitzcuintles to the league title in the 2012 Apertura. Club Tijuana achieved its first win over Club America at Estadio Caliente during the 2014 Clausura season. Christian Pellerano opened the scoring late in the game (87th minute) after an Edgar Castillo pass to lead the Xoloitzcuintles to victory.

Club America 2-1 Club Tijuana
Venezuelan midfielder Juan Arango opened the scoring with a 19th minute penalty kick. Raul Jimenez tied the game in the 67th minute and a former Club Tijuana player, Pablo Cesar Aguilar gave America the win with a header five minutes into injury time at the end of the match.
2015 Clausura
Club Tijuana 1-0 Club America
Club Tijuana got its most recent victory over America in the 2015 Clausura season. Dayro Moreno blasted a shot from the left side of the box during a break away to open the scoring a few minutes before the halftime break. Club America’s Oribe Peralta had the opportunity to tie the game but his 52nd minute penalty shot was saved by Xoloitzcuintles goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo.
2015 Apertura
Club Tijuana 0-2 Club America
Club America beat Club Tijuana in the most recent matchup between the two. Ecuadorian winger Michael Arroyo opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a long-range shot from outside of the box on the left side of the field. Oribe Peralta doubled the visitor’s lead in the 34th minute after a Carlos Darwin Quintero pass.
