Schedule Announced for 2016 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships
Youth Soccer News — US Youth Soccer announced the schedule for the 2016 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships, to be held June 30 – July 5 at the Barboursville Soccer Complex and Scott Orthopedic Soccer Complex in Barboursville, West Virginia.
The US Youth Soccer Region I Championships will feature top teams in the Under-12 through Under-19 age groups and begin on June 30, with opening ceremonies at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, W.Va. Round robin games will take place Friday, July 1 through Sunday, July 3, with semifinal matches Monday, July 4. The US Youth Soccer Region I Champions will be crowned following final games Tuesday, July 5.

US Youth Soccer State Champions and select wildcards in the U-12 through U-19 Boys and Girls age groups from 15 State Associations, including from host West Virginia Soccer Association, will participate in the event. The other state associations represented include Connecticut, Delaware, Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York West, Pennsylvania West, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.
Teams competing in the Regional Championships advanced through the first step of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, where more than 10,000 teams began their journey at the US Youth Soccer State Championships. State champions advance to the one of four US Youth Soccer Regional Championships, where nearly a thousand teams compete.
The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series is the country’s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The event provides more than 185,000 players from US Youth Soccer’s 55 state associations, the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play. The Series is known as the ultimate destination for the country’s collegiate soccer coaches and the future of soccer.
